The first OpenStreetMap (OSM) Zimbabwe Mapathon in 2023 is set to take place on March 25th from 1200-1500hrs at the University of Zimbabwe Department of Geomatics Engineering in Seminar Room 3. The event is open to all with an interest in open data and open mapping and will be a humanitarian mapping effort focusing on response efforts to the trail of destruction by Cyclone Freddy.
In a recent chat with one of the event organizers, Mr. Clifford Tarerwa, it was revealed that the event is likely to feature a hybrid model (both physical and online) and he also added that more details about this will follow. Attendees can expect to learn how to map on the Tasking Manager and network with other colleagues.
To participate in the event, attendees will need to bring their laptops, chargers, and external mice as these will be the essentials for this event.
If you are interested in attending this event, mark your calendars for the 25th of March 2023. This is an opportunity to contribute to a worthy cause and help rebuild communities affected by Cyclone Freddy. The good thing is that anyone can join even without prior mapping knowledge. The process is simple and straight forward.
OpenStreetMap is built by a community of mappers who contribute and maintain data about roads, trails, cafes, railway stations, and much more, all over the world. The OSM Zimbabwe Mapathon is a great opportunity for anyone with an interest in mapping, data, and humanitarian efforts to get involved and make a difference.
Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to learn new skills, network with other like-minded individuals, and make a positive impact. Mark those calendars and be part of this humanitarian mapping effort.
