Did you know that the Environmental Systems Research Institute (South African Branch) is offering a really amazing Geographical Information Systems package for the Unemployed Youth?

Officially ESRI had announced that it was going to rollout several plans and packages throughout this COVID-19 pandemic so as to help youth and all GIS fanatics enhance and improve their skills while working from or staying at home. We have also seen a lot of packages being offered some of which include the Cartography MOOC which is ongoing and the past Spatial Data Science MOOC.

ESRI South Africa have implemented numerous initiatives and have formed strategic partnerships to assist with skills development and to pass on critical geospatial skills to unemployed youth, aligning them to possible job opportunities. Adaptation and upskilling are essential, and these initiatives aim to educate people and reskill individuals impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of these skills can be learnt online. – ESRI South Africa Website

The most important thing to note is that you are required to fill out a form in order to check for eligibility. One of the requirements for this is for the applicant to upload their Tertiary Qualification Certificate which might be a little unfortunate for the young ones who haven’t graduated. But however, they also gave room for those who do not meet the requirements to directly send them a message, so with a good explanation, you might just lend yourself a good GIS package to start with.
