Airbus Defence and Space has joined forces with Angola to create Angeo-1, a high-performance Earth observation satellite. The satellite will be constructed in France, marking a significant step towards strengthening the relationship between the two nations. The agreement cements Airbus’s position as Angola’s strategic partner for space.

The Angeo-1 satellite, which is set to be the most advanced of its kind in the region, will provide Angola with sovereign access to satellite imagery that will help drive the country’s social and economic development. Jean-Marc Nasr, head of space systems at Airbus, explained that the satellite will support a range of strategic activities in Angola, including urban planning and the management of mineral resources.
In addition to providing Angola with a more sophisticated infrastructure and natural resources mapping system, Angeo-1 will also help the country better understand the origins and impact of climate change. It will facilitate drought monitoring, better preparation for natural disasters, and reduced loss of assets.

To ensure the success of the Angeo-1 project, Airbus will provide Angolan engineers with a comprehensive training program designed to build their competencies in the field of satellite engineering. The partnership is expected to strengthen further as Angeo-1 becomes operational, following in the footsteps of Airbus’s previous support of Angola’s operational applications using satellite imagery.
