What inspired you to pursue your career?

Growing up without some proper career guidance can be hard So i can say I struggled to find my personality and figure out the things i love to do for a living .

A level came and I had to choose my subjects I ended up choosing Geography and later on fell in love with that .When it was time to apply for university I wanted to be part of the Engineering faculty so going through the degree searching process that’s when I came across Geomatics Engineering in Surveying being offered at University of Zimbabwe and funny enough only because it had the part Geo- I applied and not so much to my own surprise I also fell in love with the degree and the profession and I can say as a young lady I am inspired to pursue a career in Geomatics engineering in surveying by various factors.

Firstly, the opportunity to work outdoors and engage in fieldwork, exploring and mapping the world around me is very enticing. Additionally, the chance to contribute to vital infrastructure projects, urban planning, environmental conservation, and disaster management is always a feeling thats highly rewarding to me .

This field displays the potential for career advancement, and the ability to make a positive impact on society and all of this inspire me to pursue this exciting and diverse field of engineering.

What have been some of your biggest accomplishments in your career?

Through this field of study I can honestly say I got to appreciate the world around me more being part of infrastructural development projects such as

  • dam constructions, road surveys etc has helped me pave a way to be a better version of my self professionally. Not that its a big accomplishment but
  • through FIGYN I got to be part of their mentorship programme as a mentee and got my certification of participation .
  • And through the SIZ Festival of Surveying I also got to participate in a very interesting essay competition and I came first position
  • And lastly through African Surveyors Connect I got to do what I love the most that is expressing my love for my profession through writing articles as I became part of the Editorial and Publishing team

What challenges have you faced in your career and how have you overcome them?

In my very short time in this career the challenges I have faced were more of personal responsibility I used to feel like I didn’t have what it takes to make it in this field so I can say it was all of low self esteem and fear but seeing all the other women shining bright and inspiring people like me that we can actually become amazing ladies I got to overcome my challenges

What advice do you have for other women who are aspiring to pursue a career similar to yours?

All i can say is

success starts with every challenge.not from the comfort zone
