How to Install the GeoServer

Posted on April 1, 2021 by KUMBIRAI MATINGO

In this step-by-step guide, we will be going through how you can easily install the GeoServer on your machines.

GeoServer is an open source server for sharing geospatial data in both vector and raster format. It is designed SchaferandweinerShops Switzerland – Jacket with detachable belt bag ADIDAS by Stella McCartney – adidas Originals 2256 to host major data sources, which can easily render on maps.

Download stable version of GeoServer to Install:

Google out http://geoserver.org/ link.

Hit the Download tab and install the stable version of geoserver. In this tutorial we have downloaded GeoServer 2.12.0. Before installation make sure that you already have JRE installed. If you have not installed that please visit

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

to download JRE (Java runtime environment) and install it.

Due to lack of funding, unfortunately for Windows users like myself, you will not have the GUI installer. Instead, lets compile the source code and get our installer.

  1. Download and install NSIS.
  2. Install the NSIS Access Control plugin. The simplest way to do this is to download the zip, extract the .DLL files (AccessControl.dll) and copy it to the NSIS plugins directory (usually C:\Program Files\NSIS\Plugins\x86-ansi).
  3. Download and unzip the binary GeoServer package:
    unzip geoserver-[VERSION]-bin.zip

  4. Download and unzip the source GeoServer package:
    unzip geoserver-[VERSION].zip

  5. Copy the files LICENSE.txt, src/release/GPL.txt and the following nike air force 1 07 black cool grey racer blue white files from src/release/installer/win from the Geoserver source GeoServer package to the root of the unpacked archive (the same directory level as the start.jar):
    GeoServerEXE.nsi
    gs.ico
    header.bmp
    side_left.bmp
    splash.bmp
    wrapper.conf
    wrapper.dll
    wrapper.exe
    wrapper.jar
    wrapper-server-license.txt

  6. Right-click on the installer script GeoServerEXE.nsi and select Compile Script.

After successfully compiling the script, an installer named geoserver-[VERSION].exe will be located in the root of the unpacked archive.
